The Current River in Missouri is famed for its canoeing, but there is some fantastic backpacking in the area as well.

Ironically, while the River is often crowded, the Ozark Trail that runs through the area is frequently underutilized. In fact, the stretch I hiked from Owl’s Bend south to Stegall Mountain is downright overgrown from lack of use.

And I had to laugh when to rangers I saw were surprised to see anyone on that trail, despite the spectacular shut-in just a few feet away, or the spectacular views on several sections of the trail.
